Farm Bureau Calls for More Tanks

AFBF The American Farm Bureau Federation is asking Congress to provide incentives for gas station owners to install storage tanks so that alternative fuels will be more available to the public. House and Senate bills H.R. 5346 and S. 2614 would provide those incentives for not only ethanol and biodiesel, but also compressed natural gas or hydrogen.

According to a release, AFBF President Bob Stallman sent a letter to members of Congress last week urging them to pass the bills, saying “The result of this legislation would be increased consumer access to alternative fuels and more use of such fuels as E-85 and biodiesel, which are renewable fuels produced from the crops grown by America’s farmers.”

If it’s that important of an issue to the AFBF’s Bob Stallman, here’s an idea: Why don’t they dig into their pockets and fund the installation of tanks for alternate fuels?

I’m getting very discouraged reading where we need to install more tanks for E-85. The simple and cheaper solution is blending pumps using the 2 existing tanks(one for straight ethanol and one unleaded) that most stations already have in place. In my NW Iowa location most could be DNR compliant by modifiying some piping for a few thousand dollars and swapping out the existing pumps with new UL Dresser Wayne Ovation series blenders. Utica Energy in Oshkosh Wi has been direct marketing ethanol through a blender for over a year for considerably less by cutting out the middle man. They don’t need any laws because their price draws people to use their product. In Watertown SD there is a blender dispensing 0,10,20,30,and 85% ethanol fuel I’ve also read about. I’m beginning to think this project is about job creation by breaking as much cement and installing as many unnecessary new tanks as possible.
