Cal’s Prop 10 Looks to Promote Alt Fuels
Voters in California are being asked to approve a $5 billion bond measure that is designed to help spur the growth of alternative fuels in the state.
This story in the Sacramenta Bee outlines some key points in Proposition 10:
WHAT IT WOULD DO
• Authorizes $5 billion in bonds, about $2.9 billion of which would go toward rebates of $2,000 to $50,000 for buyers of alternatively fueled or highly fuel-efficient (at least 45 miles per gallon, highway) vehicles, such as the hybrid Toyota Prius. The largest subsidies would go toward purchase of commercial vehicles and buses powered exclusively by “clean alternative fuels,” effectively, natural gas.
• Authorizes $2.1 billion for research, development and training for companies, local governments and colleges for renewable and alternative energy projects.
• Requires the money to be spent within 10 years, with no more than 1 percent for administering the program.
Proponents, such as billionaire oilman T. Boone Pickens, say the measure will reduce dependence on foreign oil, clean the air and create thousands of clean-energy technology jobs. Opponents argue the bonds will outlive the natural gas-fueled vehicles they are planned to promote.
You can read the text of the proposal here from the California Secretary of State’s office… and make up your own mind.

Why are you promoting this trash? Natural Gas is just another unsustainable Fossil Fuel.
This nonsense is nothing but another cog in the “Government makes Boone Pickens even Richer” Plan.
Vote No!

Here’s a wonderful Pro-Ethanol Report from the U.N. on how biofuels/ethanol can lift Africa out of Poverty.
I wonder if “Science” Magazine will run with This Story?

I am not certain if Domestic Fuels is promoting T. Boone Pickens “pick-pocket Proposition 10″, or just making us aware.
However, when it mentions the Prius it should say “only the Prius.” The other hybrids don’t fit within the specifications of the proposition.
Also, don’t expect that biodiesel and E85 will get a penny out of this proposition, as the deceptively-worded small print specifies that it is just natural gas–it is written in a way to exclude biodiesel and E85.
Effectively, T. Boone Pickens would have a natural gas infrastructure built by taxpayer dollars overnight, while biodiesel and E85 keep on very slowly plugging away at theirs. T. Boone Pickens would benefit through his natural gas holdings immensely ($Billions?). He has done similar activities in TX–check it out.
Companies across the U.S. could buy natural gas vehicles in California, then take them to other states for their use–on CA taxpayers’ dollars!!
I don’t blame the guy–he’s just a capitalist. But the public deserves to know that they will be shelling out the money to make him richer. All the while California is hit very hard by the Foreclosure Crisis and huge budget deficits.
No thanks, T. Boone. Take the “Pickens Pick-Pocket Proposition” elsewhere…
Domestic Fuel–thank you for posting this topic so that we can be providing the forum to oppose. I hope that you aren’t seriously supporting this.

By the way–check out the article itself in the Sacramento Bee linked to this article. It gives other negatives. Also, those that are posting in the Bee are heavilly against it. It will not pass anyway; the public perception is negative here. Though, they are spending $Millions on radio and TV ads here. I grimmace when I hear them…

T. Boone–I’m not against the natural gas vehicles. Instead of spending the $11.5 Million that you and Chesapeake have on advertising, you should have just subsidized the vehicles and infrastructure yourselves.

Some of this money should go into promoting full production of Algae fuels, grown in controled green houses that can be built in the desert using salt or waste water. This technology has been study by the DOE and NERL and proven to work. It is time to move into full production. In a few sort years we could be producing thousands of barrels of oil per day and create thousands of jobs in the process. Not to mention millons of dollars that would stay here in the US to help spur more green fuel projects.

Californian’s,
Don’t end up cutting your nose off to spite your face. Get over the fact T Boone will make some money on this..he should…but so should you and you will if you follow his leadership. We’ve all become so jaded, skeptical and paranoid since the market tanked and rightfully so. It’s possible that T Boone is trying to do the right thing for the country…he’s not a politician. Count me in!

League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club, Union of Concerned Scientists, Natural Resources Defense Council and Environment California all oppose Prop 10. It’s squanders $10 billion to steer us onto a fossil fuel natural gas bridge to nowhere.
