Obama Economic Speech Highlights Alt Energy Plans

obama3This week’s major economic speech from President-elect Barack Obama pointed out how ethanol and biodiesel, as well as other alternatives to conventional energy sources, will be key to the nation’s economic recovery.

This article from the New York Times says the plan also pushes energy efficiency:

“To finally spark the creation of a clean energy economy, we will double the production of alternative energy in the next three years,” Mr. Obama said in a speech at George Mason University in Virginia. “We will modernize more than 75 percent of federal buildings and improve the energy efficiency of two million American homes, saving consumers and taxpayers billions on our energy bills.”

Mr. Obama also said that the nation must begin building a “smart grid,” which he said would make the country less vulnerable to blackouts or even attacks, in addition to saving money and aiding renewable energy.

The article goes on to point out that green energy jobs have been a longtime priority for Obama since the earliest days of his candidacy.

Verasun .08 cents, Pacific Ethanol .58 cents, Aventine .62 cents ? Do we need to even comment on US alternative energy policy. I don’t see a 100% effort to back ethanol. I do see a 100% road block by politicians, auto industry, oil, lawyers and lobbyist to max the blend ratio at 10%. Let’s count the score- oil 90% market share, ethanol 10% market share, gee thanks for the alternative fuel policy. The US could have migrated to 10% alternative fule by accident. I see Obama backing Electric/Hybrid Vehicles, Solar Power Grids, Wind Power Grids but Ethanol, no change.

JM, that’s what I suspect also. Nothing to contrary yet. Lol, the CIC in waiting also announced only shovel ready road projects to get funding. What? All the smaller state and local projects can go away as not enough high priced union labor.

Federal gov’t should continue to pave road to ethanol production and usage. This fuel has done a tremendous job dampening international prices of oil. Brazil exports doing a good job. Much investment upon India, also. We have a good thing going with cellulose ethanol. Technology improvements and investments announced daily. We need to ride this horse and be technology leader to world. Bio-fuels teaming up as technology similar and products co-produced with similar equipment.

Ethanol is shovel ready and the biggest bang for the buck. It’s a domestic fuel, producing jobs and economic activity which produces a precious commodity, taking a bite out of the trillion dollars imported oil and keeping high demand and ensuing high prices deflated. Makes sense to me.
