As the climate warms and water supply dry s up the farmers will produce less and less. Might be a good time to start thinking what we should be doing for the family farms. Most of our farmers are in their late 50s and early 60s. Who is going to be doing all this farming?

Farming is an extremly attractive lifestyle…don’t worry about that. Farming is more lucrative profession and all indications gaining ground. Energy crops will improve the economics greatly. Wind revenues, also.

How about all the technology, most haven’t a clue on technology improvements. Magazines and books whipping up environmental dire predictions are out of touch and extrapolate old data, i.e. “The Natural Step” is one such book. Like small European boutique farms will be the better solution. Actually, just another product in this gigantic economic sector. Open markets will award consumer’s demand will the best solutions.

Environmentalist often spout water use in terms of destroying water. This a Red Herring. Meaning water use should be controlled or managed to keep aquifers full. This may require less pumping and better usage or switching (relocating) business and development to other regions. Municipalities to my thinking the biggest offender as they merely pump treated waste water to river ways. Why is this allowed? Biological activity upon terra firma a wonderful micro treatment plant and replaces ground water to outlet point. Same with waste stream utilized for fertilization needs.
