Bill Elliot to Attempt NASCAR Record with E85

e85_mustangTomorrow, Brent Hajek Motorsports will put Bill Elliott behind the wheel of an E85 powered Mustang FR500C Cobra Jet at Talladega Superspeedway in an attempt to break the NASCAR speed record. the current NASCAR top speed record sits at 212.089 mph and was set by Elliott in 1987 at the same track by a Ford Thunderbird.

The Mustang Cobra Jet that will be used to defeat the 22 year old record has already reached 252 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah under direction of Brent Hajek Motorsports.

bill_elliottRacing legend Bill Elliott has built one of the most distinguished records in NASCAR Cup history. Since 1976, Elliott has participated in close to 750 races, achieved 44 wins, collected 55 career poles and amassed winnings of some $73 million. With all of his incredible success, he still remains humble, stating, “We are all motivated by certain things. Of course, winning is one of them, but for me, the fans have always been the biggest motivational factor. I’ve said this over and over-our fans are the backbone of this sport and they are the reason we are able to do what we do.”

    Hajek Motorsports 2009 Update:

Hajek Motorsports just set a new land speed record of 252mph in the E-85 FR500 Cobra Jet Mustang. They were running a hybrid between a Ford GT and Cobra Jet engine that put down 1200hp at only 7K rpm.

We are one of the sponsors of the Hajek Motorsports record setting car. With the help of the engine builder Dick from More Power Inc. we were thankfully able to cool the 400deg outlet temps of the Whipple down with our new GT500 Undercharger Intercooler to a mere 72deg! That allowed us to make enough power to set the new Land Speed Record. Although we did set a record at Talladega last year, we were not able to break the 212.089mph set by Bill in ’87 due to alignment issues. However now that we have the E-85 Land Speed Record for a production car we can now focus yet again on breaking the Talladega track record. All of us here at VTSRacing.com have really enjoyed working with all of the guys from the Hajek Motosports Team & all of the other Hajek Motorsports Team Sponsors. It has been a very long road to this point with just about every bump you could think of in our way, but thankfully due to the hard work and dedication of the Hajek Motorsports Team, the Team Sponsors and Danny Thompson (who hand made many of the parts for the body) we were able to achieve that which some only dream about.

I would like to take the time to thank Brent Hajek & Rick Hernandez from Hajek Motorsports & the engine builder Dick Eshe from More Power Inc. for giving us the opportunity to be a part of Mustang and Bonneville History.

    Thanks,

    Stephen Forrest
