    Discounts to promote biofuels

Owners of vehicles that can run on two distinctly different types of fuel — E85 and biodiesel — have two opportunities to buy cleaner-burning biofuels at bargain basement prices this month.

On Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Freeborn County Coop at the intersection of Highways 56 and 90 will take 85 cents off the per-gallon price of E85, and 20 cents off the per-gallon price of B5 biodiesel.

Two days later, on Thursday, Aug. 20, the Kwik Trip at Fourth Street Northwest (near the Interstate 90 exit) will offer the same discount on E85 and B5 from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be a 30-gallon limit per vehicle at both events.

Both E85 and biodiesel can reduce tailpipe emissions, the single largest source of air pollution in the state, according to the American Lung Association in Minnesota, one of the supporters of the promotions.

The promotions are supported by Freeborn County Coop, Kwik Trip, Mower County Corn & Soybean Growers, Minnesota Corn Growers Association, Minnesota Soybean Growers Association, the Minnesota Clean Air Choice Team and the American Lung Association in Minnesota.
