Brazil Ethanol Pipeline Gets Environmental License

Brazil’s ethanol pipeline is getting closer to reality as a preliminary environmental license for the project was issued this week.

The $1.1 billion project, which is a partnership between Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras), Mitsui & Co. and Camargo Correa SA, is designed to transport ethanol in a 337 mile pipeline from the producing regions in the Mid-West, Minas Gerais and São Paulo to the large consuming centers of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The project has been under development since early 2006 and is now scheduled to begin late next year.

E85 is the way to go. It can save a country’s economy from being dependent of oil supply from other countries so badly. USA should have done so when it was faced with oil embargo in the mid-1970.
People have different reasons against E85. One of them is the concern about that the use of grains and corn for ethanol production may compete with the supply of foods and result in higher price for grain and corn.
As a physician who is concerned about the health of Americans and people of the world, I am asking that we all should restrict the consumption of carbohydrates, especially those with sugars, grains, corn, and starchy foods like potatoes, for restoring their health and reducing the need of health care and its expense.
Thus, I encourage farmers to grow more grains, corn, and any carbohydrate products for producing ethanol, which can be the major supply for E85, and stabilize the fuel price and grown the economy. At the same time, save the health care expenses for quality life.
