Thank a Farmer Today

This week is Ag Week. Have you thanked a farmer yet?
For those of you reading this post and wondering why you should thank a farmer, remember that they not only produce our food, but also our fuel and fiber. Growers are planting and harvesting crops that are used to create biofuels – biodiesel, ethanol, cellulosic and soon algal-based biofuels.
Need some inspiration? Watch country singer James Wesley music video, “Thank a Farmer.” You can find James’ song on YouTube and purchase it at iTunes.

The renewable fuel industry should be developing products that are made from farm waste rather than human food or animal feed. Now, thanks to genetic crop engineering, most of the US corn is poisonous, has contaminated most meat animals and is testing at alarming levels in humans. One of the primary duties of government is to insure the safety of the nation’s food supply. The government has deliberately concealed the dangers of GM products entering the human food chain and very quietly pushed for other uses of the poisonous GM agricultural products. Corn based ethanol is a prime example. Many unadulterated agricultural products have medicinal qualities in addition to nutrition which scientists are only now beginning to discover and understand. We must thank the farmers who are growing organic and/or non-genetically modified crops and we must insist that the other farmers stop poisoning us.

MM – first of all, the industry is hard at work developing products from all types of waste, not just farm.
Secondly – I am curious as to what makes you an expert in this field? Are you a scientist, biologist, ecologist, agronomist, anything like that? Or do you just believe what you read somewhere that fits your particular agenda?
